Ten Point Self Action Plan

[Environment & Technology concluding Part]

By S P MANGHIRMALANI

GLOBAL WARMING is on the way of becoming the concern of every citizen of the globe. Usually when it comes to adopting the preventing measure for this, most of us remain answerless because most of us are without the knowledge of efforts that an individual can take in this direction. Here are few points which need to be converted into action plan by every individual.

1. The car / Vehicle you drive: the most important personal climate friendly decision that you can take. While buying your prime attention must be on the fuel economy and fuel burning efficiency of the vehicle as it will reduce the emission of green house gases and will be your first step towards the protection from the adverse effects of the global warming.
2. Choose clean power. It is essential that all the products purchased by use must be eco friendly you can insure that by buying the products that bear the Greene logo. We have to keep it in the mind that, none of us can live without electricity, but power plants are the single largest source of heat-trapping gas. Hence choosing clean power will help to fight against the global warming.
3. Look for Energy Star: When you are going to buy or replace appliances, look for the Energy Star label on new appliances (refrigerators, freezers, furnaces, air conditioners, and water heaters use the most energy). These items may cost a bit more initially, but the energy savings will pay back the extra investment within a couple of years. Household energy savings really can make a difference, because energy saved is energy produced.
4. Unplug a freezer: It is a common thing that freezer are not in use at night in the most of the homes hence your habit of unplugging the freeze before going to bed will help in reducing almost 25% of carbon dioxide emissions by your family.
5. Keep an eye on your home energy uses: by installing a programmable thermostat to replace your old dial unit or sealing and insulating heating and cooling ducts can each reduce a typical family's carbon dioxide emissions by about 5 percent.
6. Light bulbs matter: It takes just a few second press the switch and get the light make it habit of lighting the bulb only when needed. Remember
With an energy-saving model, we could reduce global warming pollution.
7. Think before you drive: Our vehicles are the main source of green house gases. It is always beneficial to have a bigger vehicle to meet with number of travelers instead of opting for two small vehicles. Even if from your building some body else is working in the same area you can think of sharing the car on turns.
8. Buy good wood: Still wood is preferred for the household furniture be selective about the timber source of the wood you are buying. Forests that are well managed are more likely to store carbon effectively because more trees are left standing and carbon-storing soils are less disturbed.
9. Plant a tree: It is still rainy season is on, so you can go for planting a tree that not only will you effort against the global warming but will also give an attractive look to front or backyard of your residence.
10. Don't remain Alone: Involve your friends and relatives in your action plan so the individual efforts may get shape of social efforts.
